Mirroring
About the project
For the short film “Mirroring” from UTB, I created a layered and immersive sound design that mirrors the film’s reflective and experimental visual style. The audio landscape blends realistic environmental sounds - footsteps, room ambiance, subtle mechanical noises — with abstract textures and spatial effects, emphasizing the psychological and mirrored themes of the story. Transitions between scenes are punctuated with carefully timed foley impacts, whooshes, and synthesized tonal elements, giving a sense of motion and depth while maintaining the film’s introspective and sometimes surreal mood. Reverb and stereo placement were used to enhance the sense of space, creating contrast between intimate close-ups and expansive mirrored sequences.

Dynamic layering of sound supports both narrative clarity and emotional tension, allowing viewers to feel the characters’ internal reflections and the mirrored perspectives visually represented on screen. Ambient pads and subtle sound motifs are repeated and transformed across scenes to reinforce the thematic continuity and experimental nature of the short film. Overall, the sound design balances realism and abstraction, supporting the visual storytelling while adding a cinematic depth that immerses the audience in the reflective world of Mirroring.
